Biografie
Na het eindeloos meespelen met surfmuziek in een kamer in Alkmaar, besluit Steven van der Steen dat het genoeg is geweest met deze eenmansformatie: het plan om een eigen surfband te beginnen is geboren.
Snel daarna stapt hij naar stadsgenoot Alexander Stroo, die in gaat op Stevens voorstel om zich als bassist bij de 'band' te voegen. (De twee hadden jaren terug al eerder kortstondig samen in de oefenruimte gestaan onder het mom Stark). Minuten later zegt ook Bart ter Steege uit Amsterdam 'ja' als Steven hem opbelt om hem hetzelfde te vragen als enkele minuten daarvoor aan Alexander. Echter, nu betrof het slaggitaar.
De drie organiseren geregeld drummerloze avonden waarop al een soort setlist gerepeteerd wordt en al snel is iedereen klaar om voorbereid en al de eerste auditie tegemoet te zien. Meteen een dag nadat de eerste auditieadvertenties op diverse muzikantensites zijn gezet, reageert Evert van Leeuwen uit Leiden. Net zo gedreven als de rest en met een overeenkomstige grote voorliefde voor surfmuziek, speelt hij een week later voor het eerst met het drietal samen. Na een geweldige avond in oktober '05 denkt iedereen hetzelfde: de band is compleet.
Twee maanden na oprichting speelde Golf O'Rama haar eerste geslaagde optreden als voorprogramma van The Phantom Four en één ding werd daar duidelijk: Golf O'Rama is op het goede pad en heeft veel in zijn mars.
Met een energieke en afwisselende set van ruim een uur, optredens, een videoclip en het verschijnen op de cd 'Alkmaars Trots 2006', en 2007, heeft de band al een aardige staat van dienst die in de toekomst vooral niet minder zal worden, dus blijf alert voor Golf O'Rama!

Apache

This is a very traditional cover of "Apache," nicely paced and fluidly played. They don't drift far from the source, though it's more like a surfed interpretation of the Shadows with some of the delicacy of Jorgen Ingmann.
Gan-Bay

"Gan-Bay" opens from a moody bass line that suggests something very different from that which evolves. It's a fanciful song with an arty structure and very warm melody line. Quite nice!
Jaa-Rabbi

"Jaa-Rabbi" is one of those wonderful songs from the Treble Spankers that required multiple listenings. The arrangement here is less sparkling, but no less captivating.
Geronimo

The Shadows' lend "Geronimo" to Golf O'Rama, who give it a more rock sound, while keeping smoothness and a sultry edge. Very nice.
Hawaii Five-0

Mort Shuman's TV theme is rocked out in a very traditional form. Full of spunk, "Hawaii Five-0" is always a pleasure. Nice performance.
Hurricane Ashley

A two note pattern runs behind a spooky and delicate instrumental that's quite compelling.Shawn Martin's tune is a wonder to behold. A splendid song in a splendid arrangement.
Man Of Mystery

The Shadows' "Man Of Mystery" is done in a relatively traditional style, except reverbed and rocked out. Lots of energy here.
Me Jirevis - Popcorn

Both songs are very nicely arranged and performed, and they work very well in tandem. "Me Jirevis" was carried forward from the Treble Spankers, while "Popcorn" came from Gershon Kinglsey's pen. The grin factor with "Popcorn" is not overbearing. In this form, it takes on a much less silly air, sounding seriously cool.
Miserlou
Surf Instrumental (Mono)
More or less based on Dick Dale and his Del-tones' single arrangement, Nicolas Roubanis' melody is splashed and surfed just the way it's supposed to be. The playing is very good.
New Wave
Surf Instrumental (Mono)
Phantom Frank's groovy "New Wave" is slithered out in slide form with grode guitar and rockin' drums. Excellent!
Pintor

The infectious loveliness that is Jack Irvin's "Pintor" is retained in this swimming whammy chord rendering. I can't think of a version of this song that I don't like. The Pharos' original is superb, and this carries the torch into the future with that dribbling double picked sound only these players have historically seemed to achieve.
Pipeline

The most venerable of all surf classic, "Pipeline" is, well, as it should be. Need I say more?
Sleep Walk

Lots of liquid notes ooze from the lead guitar as Santo and Johnny's classic floats across the room. Very delicate and emotional.
Surf Rider

This is a very traditional version of "Surf Rider." Nokie Edwards' tune has held up very well over the years. Golf O'Rama keep it simple and true with a smooth round sound.
Walk, Don't Run

Based on the 1960 Ventures hit, Golf O'Rama deliver an accurate rendering. The playing caliber is very high.
Walkin'
Surf Instrumental (Mono)
The Shadows' "Walkin'" is done with a bouncing rhythm track and fairly gutsy guitar.
Gan-Bay

This studio take of "Gan-Bay" is superb. An excellent song played really well, arranged perfectly, and recorded with excellent sound. Delicate, fluid, spunky, and full bodied.
